Please Help Jarrett Keep a Roof Over His Head
Donation protected
Helana and Lai-King are privileged to start this GoFundMe for Jarrett Simonds, a NextDoor neighbor who unveiled his own story of the invisible face of suburban homelessness. Jarrett is imminently homeless. For the last three years, he has lived in a converted bus in a kind stranger’s backyard. The house and property have just been sold, and with it, the loss of his home. Jarrett wants to work and needs to work to keep alive the strength and resilience he finds through work that has kept him grounded. He has wide-ranging skills in most home repair and maintenance, specializing in antique and vintage restoration repairs. While Jarrett has medical challenges, he can schedule work around his medical needs. Jarrett is on a waitlist for housing vouchers and housing, but that takes 6-9 months for it to happen. During this critical time, emergency funds are needed to supplement his work income to stabilize his housing and living situation. Without your help, the likelihood of his quickly falling through the cracks with little chance of making it off the streets is extremely real.
Both of us feel strongly that Jarrett deserves our help. He is not and has never been an addict. He is a hard worker who wants to work, contribute, and give back. In addition, he is a selfless individual willing to help pay a medical bill for a lost or homeless animal or give his last dollar to someone he knows is in a worse situation than he. Jarrett deserves this: Safe housing, his dignity and nothing less.
We appreciate any amount during this tie-over period. Repeatedly, Jarrett stresses that he wants and expects to work and will not live off of charity. If you are unable to support this campaign, please consider reposting it to help get the word out and/or hiring Jarrett to complete a project in your home. Please join us in supporting this fantastic member of our community. #helpforjarrett
