Help us to help INFORM & EMPOWER parents

Donation protected

Sudden Impact is an educational non-profit with a specific mission: to inform and empower 100,000+ parents and guardians on how to support their children to succeed academically. We use two vehicles to achieve that mission, book publishing, and parent education workshops.

With our mission in mind, we have created the Courage to Change® Book Series, which provides parents with practical tools to help their children succeed academically through elementary, middle, and high school.

We are seeking funds to help spread the word about our game-changing products and services that we are confident will positively impact young people’s lives. Specifically, we plan on becoming exhibitors at several parent and educational leadership conferences over the next few months, where we will get exposure and access to educational decision-makers.

The series’ first two titles are ‘The Parents’ Playbook’ and ‘The Parents’ Roadmap.’ By the end of the year, Sudden Impact will publish two additional titles addressing social-emotional learning and college and career pathways.

Our Sudden Impact team (Joseph Eure (aka Yusuf Allahjah), Melvyn Miller, and Leo Posada) have decades of experience working with youth of various ages as educators and coaches, so we are all deeply devoted to achieving our mission. We all had parents who wanted us to do well academically but did not always know how to help us. Our parents, like many others, figured the schools and teachers would figure it out. Sometimes that worked, but in some instances, it didn’t.

Many well-resourced families have the luxury of hiring psychologists, psychiatrists, and educational advocates to get advice on how to approach the school to get the appropriate levels of support for their children to be successful. We want to spread that love and make it possible for more families to be informed, empowered, prepared, and equipped with the information and strategies needed when meeting teachers and school officials to get the supports their children need.

Both publications in the series provide parents with practical steps to positively impact their child’s education in school and at home. Studies indicate that a supportive home environment significantly affects student achievement more than a parent’s income, education level, or cultural background.

The books feature more than 200 academic accommodations divided into high-leverage categories such as reading improvement, confidence and motivation, grade improvement, work completion, concentration and paying attention, and attendance, presented in an accessible, easy-to-read style.

One enthusiastic reader commented, “The academic language and ideas from this book, which I affectionately call ‘my pocketbook advocate,’ helped my son graduate high school at a critical time.” Another commented: “The information provided is straight to the point. It is a great reminder for parents about what the real priority is. I can feel how the authors wrote the book from a father’s heart with a teacher’s knowledge.”

The Courage to Change® Series will undoubtedly become a welcome addition to school districts looking to meet their state and federal family-engagement requirements. As we all know, parent involvement is critical in combating pandemic-related learning loss and chronic achievement, opportunity, and cultural gaps.

'The Parents’ Playbook’ and ‘The Parents Roadmap’ are available on Amazon in English and Spanish. In addition to the publications, engaging and informative workshops are available for groups of parents and caregivers. Research indicates that when families and schools work together, children are more academically and socially successful and are more likely to graduate.

After a recent parent education workshop, the PTA president commented, “Your book should be made into a workshop series that can be for parents, coaches, counselors, educators, and athletes.” We couldn’t agree with her more!

Our challenge is to get the word out to as many families and like-minded educational leaders as possible.
