Daniel Itse was the victim of a pedestrian hit and run in west Virginia on October 5th 2022. The accident happened while Dan was traveling with his disabled wife Lisa to South Carolina for the winter due to the lower cost of living. Because of Lisa's long term disability, Dan is the sole income for the household and to make matters worse, after being laid off last year Dan lost his health insurance.

Most people know Dan Itse as a very proud New Hampshire citizen and public servant, so it might be a bit surprising to hear that he was going to South Carolina at all. Most people also know Dan and Lisa as the dedicated parents of Jarrod, a terminally disabled child... After the 23 year long struggle to care for their son ended, the financial realities of caring for someone with such extreme physical and financial demands really set in. Less than a year later, they were forced to sell their home of 25 years. Consequently, Dan also had to give up his much-loved position as a state representative.

Since being laid off last year Dan has been working independently as a chemical engineer and consultant, but the couple have not been able to find suitable (handicap accessible) and affordable housing in New Hampshire. Which is why they were on thier way to spend the winter in South Carolina.

As mentioned earlier, while traveling south, they stopped for the night in West Virginia. Dan was walking to get dinner and while crossing the street a car came from around a corner and hit him from behind. Dan suffered wounds to his head, shoulder, back, and his right tibia and fibula were broken and required surgery and will require physical therapy.

Now, in addition to lots of costly medical bills, Dan is physically unable to do much of his work as it often requires him to travel to power plants, installing and maintaining pollution control systems.
