Hello Friends,
Many of you have been following along since January, but for those of you who have not…here is Hank’s saga.
In January, on Betty White’s birthday, I found Buddy (aka Hank) roaming the streets of Encino. After spending 3 hours trying to get him out of the street and into my car, I succeeded. I took him to my dog’s vet to see if he was chipped, but sadly he was not and had no collar. I learned via NextDoor that he had been on the streets for at least 4 months. With the help of some wonderful friends I was able to find him a temporary foster while I sorted some things out.
After I got him situated, I started working with a local rescue. They helped us get him fixed, medical attention, bathed and offered some guidance on how the process works. I spent the next several weeks posting to NextDoor, Facebook and different shelters to try to find his owner, but sadly nobody has come forth.
Since then, we have tried to socialize him and provide him with a stable and calm environment, which was successful to a degree. One of the volunteers from the rescue took him to her home for a few months and he made notable progress, he wasn’t as reactive with the other dogs she was housing. Unfortunately, the volunteer had to leave town for a couple weeks and placed him in a kennel in Anaheim for a couple weeks. She returned, but a couple weeks turned into a month and as far as I know now he is still there nearly 6 months later.
I won’t disclose the many details that have made this experience disheartening and disappointing, but rather ask for your help.
I’m trying to raise money for his boarding and training to become a service dog. From what I understand it’s between $3,000 - $5,000, and I’d not as a service dog, this will at least help him make the progress needed to find his forever home.
Please spread the word and donate as much as you can.
Wishing you and your family the happiest of holidays.
Thank you so much,
Jessica
