We are Bella, Emily and Molly, three 8th grade students from Bow Memorial School, reaching out to you to ask for your help.
Did you know that girls like us are less likely than boys to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (also known as STEM)? That’s one reason why we feel lucky to participate in Destination Imagination (DI) — an educational academic program where we have learned and practiced creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork through different competitive challenges. These skills will help us in the future – in high school, college and beyond. See: https://nh-di.org/
We recently competed in the NH-DI tournament, with a “Tricky Tales” Fine Arts Challenge Solution. Our months of teamwork, script writing, set building, and practice paid off! We were one of the top-scoring DI teams in New Hampshire and are invited to compete at Global Finals in Kansas City, Missouri next month! www.globalfinals.org
This is a big deal for us - Molly started competing in DI in 3rd grade! Last year our team made it to Globals, but it was all online. Now we have the chance to be at Globals with kids from around the world. Also, our teacher, Mr. Storer has been an awesome supporter for us and even won New Hampshire’s “Spirit of DI” award this year. We would love to take him to Globals before we go to high school.
Now we face our next big challenge - and here’s where we need your help. All teams that attend Global Finals have to raise the money to attend - $5,500 to register our team for the competition and transportation of props alone!
Now we need your support. With your help, we can realize our dream and go to Globals to compete with the best in the world. Thanks for reading this! We hope we can count on you to support our development as leaders and innovators.
