We need help renovating the building, for this a self funded disability led project, designed to support both the artists working from it and local creatives, from our combined arts hub, retail space and wellness centre located within the House Of Serpents Shop, Stoke Newington London.
Convergence Hive the CIC that will run from the building aims to provide a therapeutic environment and space where people can learn, use our jewelry making, leather and metalworking equipment and train creatively in a relaxed setting, that helps to support their professional development and provides them with a retail space to sell their handmade creations at reduced rate, to make selling more profitable for them.
A space where freelance artists with disabilities and the elderly artists can come to workshop and develop their designs, expand their skill base , or just sell, or create. This provides further opportunity to improve employability and get support to set up their own small businesses. Projects on the horizon:
Spill the tea!- a social weekly jewelry workshop for retired and disabled crafters. Low cost on site EQ use for freelance artists.
The production and sale of LGBTQ+ and alternative lifestyle friendly resources for teens and young adults.
However, the new House of Serpents premises involves complex renovations.
The hub is in an ideal zone 2 location within a thriving and supportive local community, however this iconic 1850s and needs a lot of TLC after having been mistreated and left vacant for many years. New windows, flooring, and other essential structural repairs need completing for the community project to flourish. We are seeking essential funds so we can give back to the community over at least the next decade.
The community project has been a long term dream of the founders, who wish to provide creative services and support to marginalised groups. We appreciate any and all contributions, big and small to get this project off the ground!
The picture is the latest part of the project we need to pay for, that was never factored into our budget, because we had no idea it was here, till we got to the final stages of this room when the the unsuitable building material a previous tenant had covered the hole with got wet from the paint and collapsed. This cavernous inch thick hole now needs filling, as we desperately need to finish the floor afterwards and move into the space.
We have already managed to take out the rotten window and put a new one in, thanks to your donations ✨
