Hi, my name is Ecaterina Donciu and I am raising funds for my brother Feodor Donciu. He is 28 years old and suffered a severe brain injury after he was hit by a car on 18th February 2023 in Northampton, United Kingdom.
Immediately, he was hospitalized in critical condition in the General Critical Care Unit at the University hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust. He was on life support for months and had done a bifrontal craniotomy and a bifrontal Cranioplasty.
After few weeks, medical staff from the mentioned hospital intended to disconnect the device that was helping to keep him alive because they believed that was no hope that my brother will wake up.
But, we strongly believed in him and prayed for him.
So, after few months, Feodor started to give signs that he is waking up and in July 2023 was taken the decision to admit him to Central England Rehabilitation Unit (CERU) Leamington Spa Hospital for a three month STAR assessment.
After this, in November 2023 he was referred for NHS Continuing Healthcare assessment.
It is important to mention that I became Feodor’s next of kin because from the whole family (we are originally from the Republic of Moldova), only two of us were living in the UK. So, on his behalf, I took the decision regarding consent to the NHS Continuing HealthCare assessment process.
Now Feodor is awake and in a stable situation, so the tracheostomy tube was removed. He has started to speak, react, smile and to move but is still unable to walk or stand up, and has a PEG tube for his medication and feeding.
He is remembering us, the whole family, but he is not fully conscious about what has happened to him and where he is. Everything is new at all for him.
He is currently in the United Kingdom but his wife and their two year old son live in the Republic of Moldova. We have obtained visa for our mother, so she had come here several times to help him to recover.
The problem is that Feodor still requires medical care around the clock and a minimum of 2 nurses by his side.
In December 2023, following the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting, The Coventry and WARWICKSHIRE Integrated Care Board’s decision was that Feodor does not have a primary health need and therefore is not eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare.
But we still are waiting for any care funding that Feodor can receive from other services.
He needs rehabilitation to help him get back and improve his skills and abilities for daily life.
Unfortunately, here in the UK he will receive just a care place and this is the main reason for, we want to move him back to our country and/or find a Rehabilitation Unit who specializes in Traumatic Brain Injuries, where Feodor could receive consistent physical therapy, speech and language therapy and more, which he isn’t getting at his current facility because of the clinical staff reported limited potential.
He needs to be transferred home, in the Republic of Moldova, where he would need supplies and medical equipment, special food, a wheelchair, a hospital bed and always a special transport to the hospital. So, the expenses are increasing due to his inability to work.
The reason of this gofundme is that we would like to be able to provide him the best opportunities for his full recover.
This is a step closer to getting Feodor back to be able to live the life he deserves. He loves to live!
Feodor has always been there for anyone in their time of need.
Through this situation he has become even more of a hero for me, his family, our family and friends.
Sadly we have learned the hard way that life can change in the blink of an eye.
If you have read this far I would like to thank you for your time and consideration to donate. We will appreciate any and everything we can get.
All funding raised here will go for Feodor’ rehabilitation, treatment, transportation, leaving and related expenses.
I will post updates when there is news to share.
Thank you for all the support!
You are Wonderful!
Take care and stay safe!
