Farmhouse is a short drama and a passion project that has brought together a crew of over twenty dedicated filmmakers, supported by two strong lead actors.

I'm Miles Barton, an award-winning actor and this is my directorial debut, and I’m collaborating with my close friend, Finn Williams, an award-winning producer who has produced 100% Pure Rage (an AACTA 2026 contender and SXSW selection) and Who We Once Were (a recent AACTA 2026 Best Student Film nominee). I originally came up with the story behind Farmhouse in Grade 9, long before I fully understood what I was writing. Over the past year, I revisited the story and explored what it truly meant to me when I first wrote it.

During the early stages of writing the script, my dad was admitted to a psychiatric hospital and placed on suicide watch. At times, it felt like I was writing a film for his funeral. Through rewrites, I realized I had been creating a dishonest portrayal of him, influenced by my own guilt and pain.

I began writing this film for him, but I realized that if I continued in that way, the film would never be finished. By connecting with people who also struggle to communicate with their parents, I understood that this film is ultimately for children and parents who find it hard to connect.

Farmhouse is a short film that represents a much larger, deeper story; one we unfortunately do not yet have the funds to fully explore. That’s why we’ve focused our vision and resources on developing the short film and documentary of this show film with as much quality as possible.

The story follows Mary, who desperately seeks the love and approval of her stoic father, Marcus. Marcus is still grappling with the death of his wife while trying to protect his daughter from the outside world. Their lives collide during a single road trip, forcing them to confront each other and ultimately changing the way they perceive one another forever.

We aim to shoot in February and complete the film by mid-year.
