Hi, my name is Natalie, I am Jennifer’s youngest sister and Evie’s aunt. The doctors informed us that Evie will be in the hospital a minimum of two weeks but much more likely way longer than that.
Evie took a downward turn a couple days ago. It was sudden and it was extremely scary. Evie contracted hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) from ecoli bacteria. Moves from intestine into blood stream and can shut down kidneys first on young people, which happened to Evie first, then progressed to cardiac arrest. They immediately initiated CPR compressions at Children’s Hospital in Calgary and maintained CPR for 50 minutes until they could put large tubes in her neck and hooked her up to cardiopulmonary bypass machine to oxygenate and pump her blood. They installed a ventilator as well. She is currently being kept fully sedated because of all the tubes. Could take several days in this state until they can determine if she will recover on her own. She’s on life support and has been transferred to stollery Children’s in Edmonton. Things are really unknown right now, but we are handling it one step at a time. We need all the support we can get at this time. If it wasn’t for the amazing doctors acting fast and with the machines, she wouldn’t be here.
The expenses should be the last thing they need to worry about so I started this gofundme to help ease those burdens. We need all the prayers and good vibes sent our way, and any little bit of support we can provide to my sister, her husband and family is much appreciated.
If you do not want to use the gofundme, the etransfer to donate funds to is: [email redacted]
Thank you.
