Hi, my name is Sara Gibbs and my best friend, Erin Hastings, had a fall on Wednesday, June 15th at the Loudoun Benefit Horse Show. After she landed, the horse accidentally stepped on her leg right above the ankle joint causing multiple breaks and fractures. Erin under went pretty intensive surgery at Stone Springs Hospital to repair 4 breaks in both her tibia and fibula in her left leg. She had a rod, multiple screws, and a plate put in. She will be non weight bearing for at least 6 weeks and is looking at a minimum of a 3 month recovery. While we are optimistic that Erin will be back riding within the next few months, there is also a very good possibility that her recovery to get back in the saddle will be longer than expected. She will be meeting with her surgeon this coming Friday and will be hoping for a more exact plan going forward.
As most of you know, Erin owns her own business in the Virginia area and travels to multiple barns a day to ride and teach both for other professionals as well as her own clients. She relies on a busy schedule to pay her bills. Unfortunately when she cannot ride, she is not making any money. She is planning on starting to teach lessons again within a few weeks when she feels ready to do so. With hospital bills on top of monthly bills, we are asking for some help to allow Erin to primarily focus on her recovery and getting back to doing what she loves.
Erin also would like to thank everyone who has been so kind throughout this whole ordeal- whether it was sending food, flowers, kind words, or coming to visit. She feels very grateful to have such amazing family, friends, and clients in her life. For everyone who has stuck by her side and will continue to do so, she thanks you from the bottom of her heart.
