Hello, my name is Jon Horry and I am the proud family member of Emma Piggy, a two-year-old miniature potbelly pig who resides in Wichita Falls, TX. Click here to view an image gallery of her pictures!

Emma is my prescribed Assistance Animal and helps me manage my disability by regulating my sleep schedule and providing stress relief. She is a cherished member of my family and is considered an assistance animal, not a pet, by federal law through the Fair Housing Act.

In the summer of 2022 after a call from Animal Control, we were both shocked to learn that the city of Wichita Falls ceased issuing permits for miniature pigs in 2019. I have lived at my home since 2015 and was unaware of the ordinance changes until we received a notice from animal control for harboring a pig within city limits.

I attended the city council meeting on October 18th, 2022 to plead for clemency for Emma, which can be viewed at here around 29-minute mark . I attended a follow-up meeting with the Animal Control Services committee in December, during which they stated they would not update the city ordinance to accommodate pigs in Emma's situation.

In April of 2023, I was cited for two misdemeanor charges of $420 each for harboring a swine within city limits. The court date has been set for May 8th, as evidenced by the following pictured court summons.

I have reached out to a local attorney to represent Emma and myself to challenge these charges in municipal court and hopefully be granted a reasonable accommodation for Emma and myself by way of seeking a variance of the city ordinance.

My attorney has requested a $750 downpayment for retainer fees with $750 to be paid out over three months to cover the initial pre-trial costs. If the case goes to trial, an additional $1,500 would be required to likely cover the full costs, but we are hoping to avoid a trial if we can win on May 8th.

Emma deserves her right to a fair trial so that she may continue to support her family and live as a free citizen. We all thank you for your support, and we promise to keep the fundraiser updated on our progress.
