Hi Everyone! My name is Emily, and if you’ve made it this far, I’m going to thank you in advance for showing up. :)
In April of 2021, I did something I had never done before. I quit my job without a backup plan. For those who don’t know, I was an emergency dispatcher, which meant decent wages and health insurance. My time there ended after I finally got the courage to answer the question, “What’s it going to be? A paycheck or my mental and physical health?” I chose the latter.
Before leaving my job, I was treated by a psychiatrist for major depressive disorder, anxiety, panic attacks, and ADHD. The medication helped my symptoms day to day but didn't deal with the underlying issues. I never used my resources or benefits for therapy or to see a specialized psychologist. It didn’t occur to me until it was too late that I would eventually have to cope with ~everything, everywhere, all at once~ after my prescriptions ran out and the medication was out of my system.
It was a chaotic, messy, and confusing time. I felt like someone attempting to skydive solo after just one lesson or like a baby giraffe trying to stand up for the first time. But that was me, and I needed help. I still do.
Where I am now and why I'm asking for help:
It has been a year and two months since I have worked or had any income. I have been surviving off the kindness of my partner and roommate and what small savings I had. A GoFundMe contribution is an opportunity to help me on my way. I have found and been communicating with a psychologist specializing in neurodevelopmental disabilities, trauma/PTSD evaluations, and cognitive behavioral therapy across the lifespan. This doctor does not accept insurance, hence the hefty out-of-pocket cost, but just like a quality tattoo, some things are worth paying more for.
The appointment would include:
• 4-5 hour evaluation
• Questions about my history, current concerns, and related behaviors
• Questionnaire for myself and a parent/caregiver, sibling, or childhood friend
• Report/diagnosis after two weeks of reviewing the information provided
That's why I need your help! I am asking for donations so I can receive professional care, diagnoses, and a better understanding of what's going on in my noggin. Thank you for taking the time to read through, share, or donate.
Lots of Love and Gratitude,
Emily Jane
