Hi! This is Elizabeth Pappanastos and MSt in Practical Ethics cohort raising funds for our peer and friend, Dr. Alex Peasah-Koduah, so that he can afford to complete the programme.

For those who haven’t met him, here’s a little about Alex: His friendship has been a highlight of the course for me. I’ve also found his intellect, character and kindness unmatched. He cares for an enormous community in Ghana, and I feel confident my imagination can’t predict how much further he will likely go.

He has officially completed the coursework for our programme at Oxford, but still has the dissertation left to complete. Funding has been hard each term. By some miraculous accident, I ended up connecting him with his funding for his last term. But now, he’s at the point of having to pay off terms in instalments, and December 1st was the first date he could not pay. A number of factors have made this term particularly difficult to pay; the soaring Cedi to British Pound Sterling exchange rate in Ghana is partly to blame. (He needs more Cedis to get a few Pounds.) Additionally, Alex pursued every available avenue that might lead to my hardship funding — thru our programme, his college, and the university as a whole — to no avail.

I’m asking, humbly, that if any of you are willing and able, would try to chip in what you can?

This instalment is £1,200. (He needs a total of £4K total to completely pay off the degree.)

Lastly, here is his current bio for anyone curious: Alex Peasah-Koduah is a General Practitioner with special interest in maternal and child health who aspires to play a lead role in medical regulation in Ghana by pursuing a PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence. He is the Medical Director of Hope Christian Hospital in Ghana where he set up the biggest NICU in the region serving as a center of excellence for neonatal care in the Central Region of Ghana. He is also the Deputy Group Managing Director for Operations of Village of Hope (a non-for-profit organization) which Rescues, Repairs, Prepares, and Propels many children who were hitherto hopeless, orphaned, destitute, abandoned, street-lived, trafficked, and enslaved, through family-based childcare, education and training, and provision of quality healthcare. He received his MBChB from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2008 and has since practiced purposively in rural Ghana. His special interest in population health and health inequalities led him to read Master in Public Health at Walden University in 2016. He later enrolled in an MSc programme in Clinical Leadership and Management at the University of Ghana Business School in 2019, where his interest in medical ethics led him to do a dissertation on the Patient Charter of Ghana. With this growing interest, he got attracted to the internationally revered MSt. in Practical Ethics programme at the University of Oxford where he is writing his dissertation on “Wombs for Rent – The Social and Ethical Dimensions of Commercial Gestational Surrogacy in Ghana”. His research interests include: ethics of patient-doctor relationships, beginning and end-of-life issues, artificial reproductive technologies, public health ethics and the use of AI in clinical decisions and management.

Thank you all so, so much for giving!
