Hello, my name is Diana Rincón, I am from Colombia. I want to share the condition I have been going through. In September 2023, I started having headaches and pain in my eyelids. I thought it was a migraine, but over the weekend I began to feel that something was wrong with my left eye, my vision was getting worse. The next day the same thing happened to my right eye, and I ended up not being able to see through either of my eyes. Everything was dark. I started vomiting, and from that day on the doctors began running tests on me. They sent me to the ophthalmologist and then back to the hospital for more in depth examinations. After many tests and an MRI, they took out cerebrospinal fluid and diagnosed me with a condition called MOGAD. This is a relatively new condition in the field of autoimmune neurological diseases, and that is why research is still being done to better understand its development and the best treatment methods. So far, none of the treatments offer a definitive cure for patients with these pathologies. In other words, it means that my immune system went crazy, and instead of attacking what is bad, it is attacking me. It has been attacking my nerves and that’s why when it attacked my optic nerves I lost my vision. It has also affected my ability to speak, write, and control my saliva. On top of everything, my brain remains very inflamed, so I have been on steroids and other medications used for other illnesses. I also receive infusions with different medications to see if they help me, although these treatments also have contraindications. I ask God a lot to restore my health. As you can imagine, it hasn’t been easy. I haven’t been able to work, because one day I feel okay and the next day I don’t. When I get the infusions, the medication hits me so hard that I can’t even stand up. That’s why I am asking for financial help, because we are going through a very difficult economic situation. Hola mi nombre es Diana Rincón, soy Colombiana. Quiero compartirles la condición que me está pasado: en Septiembre del año 2023, me empezó a doler la cabeza y los párpados, pensé que era una migraña, el fin de semana empecé a sentir que mi ojo izquierdo no estaba viendo bien y el siguiente día fue el derecho y al final resultó que no veía nada, todo era oscuro; me dio vómito, y ahí empezó, mi condición, me empezaron a hacer exámenes, me mandaron para el oftalmólogo, después me volvieron a enviar al hospital para que me hicieran más exámenes profundos.
Después de muchos exámenes y una resonancia magnética, me sacaron el líquido cefalorraquídeo, y me diagnosticaron con esta condición llamada MOGAD.
Esta una condición relativamente nueva en el campo de las enfermedades autoinmunes
neurológicas, y por eso aún se está investigando para entender mejor su desarrollo y los mejores métodos de tratamiento. Hasta el momento, ningún tratamiento ofrece una cura definitiva en pacientes con estas patologías.
En pocas palabras significa que mi sistema inmunológico se enloqueció y en el lugar de atacar lo malo, me está atacando a mi. Me ha estado atacando los nervios, por eso al atacar los nervios ópticos me quedé sin ver, también me ha atacado para hablar, para escribir y para controlar la saliva. Aparte de todo, el cerebro mantiene muy inflamado, entonces me han tenido con esteroides, y otros medicamentos que son para otras enfermedades, también me hacen infusiones con diferentes medicamentos, tratando a ver si me ayudan estás infusiones, de todas formas los medicamentos también tienen contraindicaciones, Le pido mucho a Dios para que me den la salud.
Entonces ya se imaginarán que no ha sido fácil, no he podido trabajar, por qué un día me siento bien y el otro día regular, y al hacer las infusiones me da duro los medicamentos que ni me puedo parar, entonces estoy pidiendo ayudas económicas por qué estamos en una situación my difícil económicamente.
