Make the Democratic Education Conference accessible to all!

From August 1 to 7, 2025, the International Democratic Education Conference 2025 #A Culture of Dialogue will bring together global democratic education practitioners, young people, families, and education activists from all over the world.
They will gather in Sint-Joris-Weert in Belgium to reimagine education and build a more democratic and inclusive future for humanity.

It has been proven that young people who experience a more democratic education develop the skills to create social and sustainable transformation within communities of practice, serving as examples for broader segments of global society creating dialogue instead of wars.

From the beginning of the international human rights discourse, it has been recognised that education should advance human rights:
UDHR 26 2. Education shall be directed to the full development of the human
personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental
freedoms. This has been emphasised time and time again by the United Nations.

So-called democratic schools operationalise many of the articles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in their educational environments.

Unfortunately, many communities and individuals who should attend the conference can't afford to come because of financial limitations.
We are talking about communities from the global south such as the Hope Flowers School located on the West Bank and the Little Hands Go Green community from Uganda.

And that’s where you come in: whether or not you yourself can attend the conference, you can still make it possible for someone else to attend the conference and become an active participant.

The International Democratic Education Conference 2025 IDEC@EUDEC 2025 is more than just a conference. It is a space of exchange, empowerment and transformation. It’s a place where young people have an actual say in decisions that affect them, where communities learn together, and where global educational changemakers meet to shape new ways of learning and living based on democracy.

But inclusion needs resources. And we want financial limits to be the least of the reasons someone is left out.

Your donation directly supports:
  • The travel of individuals/communities from the Global South
  • The attendance of people from the Global South to the conference
  • The opportunity for communities and individuals to learn new pedagogical approaches to create sustainable, democratic and inclusive learning environments where diversity is the norm.
  • The creation of a culture of nonviolent dialogue in (high) conflict zones leading to deep mutual understanding and peace.
We don’t need wars that so many global leaders endorse and some even champion. What we need is dialogue, where every voice is heard and genuinely considered. We are convinced that true healing begins when we deeply listen to one another and feel deeply heard in return.

Now more than ever, nonviolent dialogue must serve as a shield against war - a much-needed alternative to conflict. This kind of dialogue lives and breathes in every democratic school, wherever you are in the world.

We’re asking you to sponsor real participation and real dialogue.

We’ve come a long way in the organisation of the conference. The speakers are getting ready, the program schedule is nearly ready, the participants are getting excited and the venue is waiting. All that’s missing is you!

Even if you can’t be with us in Belgium, your support can help spark new conversations, workshops and voices that global communities need to hear.
Let’s build an environment where all voices are heard and taken into account.
