Hi, our names are Joshua Ayelazuno and Rosemary Ayelazuno, and we are fundraising for our cousin, 13-year-old Delmira Kaba, a bright girl from the Upper East Region of Ghana whose life has been shaped by a condition she did not choose.

Her journey

Delmira was diagnosed with a septal defect (two-hole-in-heart) condition and needs USD 10,000 for an urgent surgery. Her family hoped and prayed for the means to help her, but the cost was far beyond their ability, and the surgery was never done.

As the years passed, what began as a manageable condition has steadily worsened. The holes in her heart grew more severe as she grew older. A simple walk leaves her breathless. She struggles with chest pains, fatigue, and episodes of severe shortness of breath. Activities other children take for granted, like running, playing, and climbing stairs, are now difficult and risky for her.

Her parents have watched helplessly as her symptoms increased with age, knowing the surgery could save her, but unable to afford it.

Medical Findings

After multiple referrals from Navrongo War Memorial Hospital to Tamale Teaching Hospital, and finally to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the national cardiac center detailed tests confirmed the diagnosis:

Delmira has two congenital heart defects:

• Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD): A hole between the lower chambers of her heart

• Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA): A persistent opening that should have closed shortly after birth

These defects cause abnormal blood flow and force her heart and lungs to work far harder than they should. The doctors have warned that without surgery, her condition will continue to deteriorate and may become life-threatening.

What Is Needed

Cardiologists at Korle-Bu have recommended urgent surgical repair to close both heart defects and prevent irreversible damage. The estimated cost of the procedure is 10,000 USD

For her family, who have already exhausted every resource, this amount is impossible to raise alone.
