Help Support Daniel Mitchell Through His Medical Emergency
My name is Jayne Rodriguez-Mitchell, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart on behalf of my husband, Daniel Mitchell. We are not the kind of family that asks for help — but right now, our world has been turned upside down, and we have no choice but to put our pride aside and ask for your prayers, support, and kindness during this incredibly difficult time.
On Thursday, October 16th, Daniel woke up early in the morning with excruciating stomach pain and severe cramps. He tried to push through it, hoping it would pass, but by the end of the day, the pain became unbearable, and we rushed him to the emergency room.
After countless tests and scans, the doctors discovered something no one ever wants to hear — a large mass (pointed out in scan on picture), bigger than a softball, located deep in his pelvic and intestinal area, dangerously close to major blood vessels and arteries. The doctors still don’t know what it is, but they’ve told us that surgery is the only option to try to remove it.
Unfortunately, the hospital where Daniel was admitted didn’t have an available oncology surgeon to perform the procedure. They reached out to multiple hospitals, but we were denied transfer after transfer because of Daniel’s limited health insurance coverage. It was heartbreaking and terrifying to feel like we were running out of options while he was in pain and needing urgent care.
Finally, after days of waiting and uncertainty, one hospital — Baylor — accepted him. While we are beyond grateful for this, it comes with a difficult reality: Baylor is out-of-network for his insurance. This means that to move forward with the surgery and continued treatment, we will have to pay a tremendous amount out of pocket.
We don’t know what the road ahead looks like — how long he’ll be in the hospital, what the recovery will entail, or what we’ll be facing once the mass is removed — but we do know that we can’t face it alone.
If you can find it in your heart to donate, share, or send prayers, it would mean the world to us. Every bit of help — no matter how small — will go toward Daniel’s surgery, hospital stay, and medical expenses as we fight to get him healthy again.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for any help you can give during this painful and uncertain time. Please continue to keep Daniel and our family in your prayers. Our baby girls need their father home.
With love and gratitude,
God Bless,
Jayne & Daniel Mitchell
