Hi! Those of you who know me will undoubtedly also know my best friend of 10 years, Daisy. For those of you who don’t, Daisy is a 10 year old Yorkshire terrier mix and the biggest ray of sunshine. She loves people, her little yellow bee and trips to the beach! Anybody that knows Daisy knows just how special she is - not only to her family but to everybody she meets.
Unfortunately, two weeks ago and just 3 days after her 10th birthday, Daisy was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 5 B-cell lymphoma. An aggressive form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system in dogs. After weeks of testing we now have the chance to put her forward for CHOP protocol chemotherapy - a treatment for canine lymphoma that involves a combination of chemotherapy medications given over several months. While it isn’t a cure, it gives many dogs the best chance at remission and more quality time with the people who love them. This can range from a few extra months to a year or beyond with the right amount of luck. If left untreated we have been told that we can only expect around a month more with her which breaks my heart - she deserves so much more than that. Right now she is still the same happy little dog that follows me everywhere and brings me her squeaky ball (no matter how many times I throw it!) but without treatment soon we know she’ll start to lose enjoyment in all her favourite things.
Although I hate having to ask for help, she has given me 10 years of unconditional love and happiness and I owe it to her, to my best friend, to try everything I can. Pet insurance will only cover so much of her treatment and whilst I would give every penny I have to help her, it unfortunately won’t cover all expenses which is how I’ve ended up here. She has seen me through all the highs and lows the last 10 years have thrown my way and now it’s my turn to do everything I can to help her through the lowest of hers.
Whilst we don’t have any expectations, any donation, no matter how small, would mean more than I could ever put into words. Just sharing this page would help us so much and give Daisy the best possible chance at having the extra time she so deserves.
If you’ve taken the time to read this far, thank you for reading Daisy’s story and for supporting us during such a heartbreaking time. If I can offer a few pieces of advice, check your dogs for any lumps and bumps, take them on all the trips you can, hug them extra tight today and more importantly, let them know just how loved they are. Thank you
