Everyone who knows Crystal Lewis agrees on one thing; Crystal is one of the kindest, most caring, generous and friendly people you have ever met. Crystal Lewis has been a research technician in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 2018. On July 15, 2022, Crystal was heading out of town for her birthday weekend when she had a collision with a stolen vehicle. The driver fled the scene, leaving her bleeding and broken, screaming for help as she was trapped in her car. She suffered three breaks in her left femur, a fractured right wrist, and multiple lacerations throughout his body, including a ruptured spleen. Crystal's injuries are severe and painful and will require long-term recovery. She cannot walk or use her right hand. Hence, she has applied for long-term disability.

Long-term disabling conditions will reduce her income and require her to pay "out of pocket" for health insurance. With no other financial support and family in town to help her, she faces a significant challenge in paying her cost of living and maintaining health insurance, which is critical to her recovery. Our goal of $5,000 will provide resources to pay for health insurance for 9-12 months, and anything you can contribute will go a long way toward helping Crystal recover from her injuries.
