I am reaching out on behalf of my family; we're currently facing an incredibly challenging time. Samantha, my younger sister is married with 3 daughters who are very young with the eldest only in her 1st grade. The youngest is still a toddler and we would all understand that all daughters need their mum's presence.

Sadly, Samantha's story has taken an unexpected and heartbreaking turn. With the medical system in Papua New Guinea not up to date, Samantha has travelled to Malaysia end of November 2024. Just a few weeks ago, Samantha was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer of the esophageal. This devasting news has taken its toll on my family especially Samantha.

Since the diagnosis, my family has been racing against time to find the best treatment options in Malaysia. Returning to Papua New Guinea is not a viable option. Her doctors in Malaysia - Thomson Hospital have advised that chemotherapy must begin immediately, ideally before Christmas, to give her the best chance of recovery.

Adding to the challenge, all payments for her treatment must be made upfront, making the situation even more urgent and difficult for the family to manage. The estimated minimum cost of treatment in Malaysia is RM 121,000 MYR, but as treatment progresses, the total expenses could exceed this amount. It was a relief to learn that this battle can be fought, and that Samantha has a real chance of recovery with immediate treatment. However, the harsh reality is that healthcare is not always accessible to everyone, making this journey even more challenging for my family.
