Hi everyone! My name is Jea Madrid. I wanted to reach out and let you know that I’m fundraising to help our family friend, The Clara family, Kristine is a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother of 3 beautiful kids, a lovely friend, and a dedicated, compassionate and caring Nurse. Kristine suffered from a ruptured Brain Aneurysm that required her to undergo emergency craniotomy morning of May 13th.

Kristine was hospitalized at Red Deer Regional Hospital last May 3rd due to Cholecystitis. She didn’t undergo Cholecystectomy until May 7th Sunday afternoon. She was supposed to be discharged 24 hours after her surgery but didn’t able to due to high blood pressure before and after surgery. She was able to go home Tuesday evening to recover from home. Kristine suffered from severe and constant headaches as well as nausea and vomiting, she was taking extra-strength analgesics to ease the pain but nothing was helping. On Friday (May 12th) Kristine asked her husband, Danny to skip work so she can have someone with her in case she feels sick. Around 5:00pm Kristine came out of the bathroom after showering and loss consciousness and started seizing on the right side of her body in their dining room, luckily Danny was able to catch her. Danny called 911 and Kristine was transported to Ponoka Hospital emergency department at 6:30pm. She had another seizure and was brought to the trauma room at around 7:30pm where she was intubated and prepared to be airlifted by STARS to the University of Alberta Hospital at 9:30pm. Kristine underwent procedures and was found to have a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage and swelling in the left side of her brain she was prepared for emergency craniotomy (left side) where they clipped the aneurysm, and came out of the operating room at 4:30am. Danny talked to the Neurosurgeon at 10:30am, he was informed that Kristine suffered from a ruptured Brain Aneurysm, some parts of her brain were also affected, they don’t know the extent of the damage until they run more tests and she regains consciousness. They did more laboratory tests on Saturday morning and found out that her brain spasms stopped but there is no guarantee that it isn’t going to come back, they have also found another small aneurysm that is non life-threatening at this point. Kristine is stable and currently in a medically induced coma in the University of Alberta Hospital - Intensive Care Unit.

Kristine is an RN at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury while Danny works at Almita Piling, he had to stop working to look after his wife for the time being. Their two-income family is now down to no income at all. All the funds collected will go to their bills, mortgage and support their daily needs until Kristine is in stable condition and Danny can go back to work. This might take weeks to months depending on Kristine’s condition when she regains consciousness.

To all of Kristine’s family, friends, colleagues, and peers I am humbly asking for any kind of donation to help this amazing family. The Claras are not just friends but more like famliy not just to me, but to most people who know them well.

Let us all pray for Kristine’s fast recovery. I will be posting updates about her condition once I see her today. Thank you all!
