Hi, we are Guido and Ludovica and we are fundraising for Chopper.

Chopper is a rescue from Oaxaca, Mexico. He's about two years old and has never lived with a family. We found him roaming in the streets while on holiday two weeks ago with a broken leg, eye infection, strong cough, and painful gashes on his skin. We just couldn't leave him there. After the first examination, it was clear that further veterinary care and paperwork were needed for Chopper to travel back with us to the United Kingdom. We took him to a local vet who vaccinated him, gave him anti-parasites, micro-chipped him and cured his exterior wounds. The vet also quickly sorted out the paperwork to ensure Chopper was fit to fly.

Unfortunately, the United Kingdom does not allow pets to fly into the country, so we had to change our travel plans, fly to Paris and hitch-hike our way to London, our home (a big thank you to Diana and Matt who drove us from Calais to London).

Upon arrival, we immediately sought further care for Chopper and sadly found out that he has a very rare form of transmissible venereal cancer, also known as sticker sarcoma. Most veterinarians with a surgical background recommended a partial amputation of his genitals, which not only is expensive but also only successful in 30% of cases, as the tumor will likely reproduce and keep spreading. After speaking with Oncologist from a specialized Veterinary Facility in Guildford, we have found a less invasive and more successful treatment option. This involves a series of injections of Vincristine, which is a form of chemotherapy for dogs.

The initial examination with the center can range between £250 and £500. If the examination (blood and urine tests) proves to be successful, we will start the treatment which will hopefully only require 5 injections. Each injection will cost approximately £300.

Chopper has been incredibly strong and has the will to live, which paired with an early diagnosis and treatment can lead to a very quick recovery. We also already have two amazing dogs, Kodak and Pablo, and it's been challenging to keep them separate in the flat, so Chopper needs urgent attention.

We will of course keep you posted on his treatment and recovery.

Thank you for reading Chopper's story. Please share this page with your friends and family!
