Hey all, My name is Kelly and I have created this go fund me as a suprise to my best friend to help him get home and rebuild his life. He is currently living in Algeria where he is in a constant state of fear for his life. He is being racially abused on a regular basis, from colleagues and his manager at work to the police, the people you should go to for help. He has recently been beaten by the police and has suffered a broken rib just for walking the street to buy groceries. His manager has spat on him, punched him and racially abused him all because he is a black man. His apartment building got raided today (1/8/24) and they have arrested and stole the belongings of everyone of the same race. He luckily escaped but is now homeless and hiding in fear for his life! Once the police have captured you they load you onto a truck like animals and abandon you in the desert also known as point-zero. You are then ordered to march with a gun to your head. This is men, women and children. They are left to fend for themselves with no food, water or money, just the clothes on their back and having to withstand temperatures well above 40 degrees celcius. A lot of the people are injured with no medical treatment. The nearest human settlement is 15 kilometres (9 miles) many of these people do not make it through the desert dying from dehydration, heat exhaustion or injuries that they have occurred from being brutally beaten by the police. In the first quarter of this year 2024 more than 17,000 people have been dropped off and stranded at point-zero. I have watched my best friend go from being a happy go lucky man who always had a smile on his face to now withdrawing in on himself. His mental health has rapidly worsened due to the abuse he has received and his current situation. The money I am hoping to raise will be to help him get back to his home country and start a new life. The money will go towards travel back home, rent for a property and to live off of while he gets back on his feet. To save the money needed to get home and start over would take 30 months and that's if he could save his whole wage per month. The average salary in Algeria is around 20,000 DZD which is equivalent to £115 per month, £1,380 per annum.
