My daughter Sarah went to Nairobi in March as an unpaid charity volunteer. She is CEO of Chaffinch which works to support children in the Kibera slum of Nairobi. Sarah was visiting to see the impact that the charity has made since 2014 and to research further ways that Chaffinch can help.

Two weeks before she was due to travel home she was taken ill and spent 4 weeks in hospital.

She has multiple medical issues including tachycardia and fainting,

Sarah has medical insurance but they are only willing to pay 35% of the cost. Family and friends managed to raise the balance of the £10,000 bill and she was discharged to stay with friends until fit to fly..

Sadly, 5 days later she has had to go back into hospital and the bill will be rising again.

We would dearly love to have Sarah brought back to the UK to continue her treatment and recovery but a flight with appropriate medical support is estimated to be in the region of £34,000. This is obviously a huge amount of money.

If we can raise the money for the hospital bill that would give her the chance to recover and travel home on a scheduled flight once fit to fly.

This is NOT an appeal for the charity, Chaffinch,but any money remaining after the bills are paid would be donated to them.

3/06 Update

Thank you to the people who have donated so far. I have spoken to Sarah this morning and the hospital are suggesting discharge because their is no guarantee of payment. She is unable to stand without fainting and she is being denied pain medication. This is what makes you realise how good our NHS is.
