Caspian became part of our family through pure accident. What was meant to be a foster became long term. He came for what was meant to be 10 months and then never left. He has become such an important part of our family and our home is not the same with him not here.
On the morning of Thursday January 25th, he was lethargic and breathing very slowly. He was taken to his regular vet and diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection. He was given anti-biotics and sent home. As the day progressed his breathing became more and more labored until we decided to take him to the emergency vet. After multiple test were performed it was determined that he had spontaneous pneumothorax, a collection of air between the lungs and chest cavity. Cancer and trauma were ruled out which left no explanation as to why it had happened.
Caspian spent several days at the hospital being monitored and things seemed to be getting better. The amount of air that was being pulled out from his chest tubes was decreasing.
On the morning of January 29, we received a phone call that Caspian would be able to come home because he seemed to be on the mend. It would be better for him to recover at home with his family where he could be calm and relaxed. By that afternoon, that had changed. His chest cavity began to fill with air again showing that the things that they had attempted so far were not working and the only course of action would be surgery.
With surgery, Caspian's prognosis is great. He will be able to continue to live a healthy life. Without it, his life will be very short and very very painful. We want to do everything in our power to save our beautiful and fluffy boy
