Hi, I'm fundraising for my awesome friend Carolyn. A severe form of arthritis requires that she use a power chair for mobility full-time. But this type of wheelchair is expensive. It's kind of like buying a new car, and there are few resources available to help people pay for them.
Carolyn cannot walk or stand independently. Other than sleeping, she basically lives in her chair.
Her chair has some cool features that enable her to stay in it for at least twelve hours per day:
· Front-wheel drive for turning in tight spaces.
· Tilt and recline features that allow the chair to function as a recliner. If sitting in a certain position is not comfortable, it's easy to shift pressure on the back, bottom, and thighs to avoid skin breakdown. Carolyn shifts her chair about 4 times/hour.
· The seat elevator allows Carolyn to function in a house with normal cabinet and sink heights and enables her to reach high shelves.
· Sturdy foam-filled tires that can’t go flat, plus headlights, turn signals and a horn allow her to enjoy outdoor activities and nighttime events.
These features make the chair more expensive, but they allow Carolyn to have an active life both inside and outside her home. Her current chair is 16 years old—but wheelchairs are supposed to be replaced every 5 years. Unfortunately, her insurance through Medicare will not replace it.
Can you help Carolyn by donating even a small amount? All proceeds will go into her Power Chair for Mobility fund.
Thanks so much!
