Can you help us plant the first Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church that will serve the English-speaking community in the D.C. Metropolitan area? The Young Orthodox Tewahedo Christians (YOTC) are in the process of acquiring a building to establish Saint Paul Ethiopian Orthodox Church also known as SPOT Church. The Orthodox Tewahedo faith is a rich, ancient and transformative faith and many of us who grew up in the U.S. are faced with language and cultural challenges that prevent us from connecting with God through our beautiful Tewahedo faith. The establishment of St. Paul will address this issue by providing services in English in accordance with the teachings of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and fostering an environment of love and spiritual transformation.

Background: Young Orthodox Tewahedo Christians (YOTC) was established in 2014 when a group of young adults observed that many youths were disconnected from the Orthodox Tewahedo faith because of the language barrier. Through YOTC, we sought to reconcile the youth with the Ethiopian/Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) by teaching its cannons, dogmas and traditions in English. YOTC’s first projects included an English Bible Study on Sundays which included English Sermons, English Mezmur/Hymns, Discussions, etc. YOTC eventually branched out to do various humanitarian projects and fellowship activities among other endeavors. Through all its services, YOTC’s primary focus is the spiritual growth of individuals. In recent years, it became obvious that the same individuals that are attending YOTC services (over 200 regular attendees), also need a church to call home and where they can participate in the mysteries of the church in a place that will deliver the messages in English. Thus, the idea of St. Paul Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church was born. In August 2022, YOTC met with His Grace Abune Fanuel, the Archbishop for D.C. and its surrounding area Diocese, to obtain approval to plant St. Paul’s Church. His Grace approved the idea and YOTC embarked on the journey of planting the church.

So far, we have raised $390K in total capital but close to $1M is required for the down payment, renovations and savings required to establish the church. We kindly ask for your donation for this very important mission and know that God will bless you abundantly for your contribution.

በዋሽንግተን ዲሲ እና አካባቢው የመጀመሪያውን የእንግሊዝኛ ተናጋሪ የኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤ/ክ ምዕመናንን የሚያገለግል ቤተ ክርስቲያን ለማነጽ የበኵልዎን አስተዋጽኦ በማድረግ የበረከቱ ተካፋይ ይሁኑ። የወጣት ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ክርስቲያኖች ማኅበር (Young Orthodox Tewahedo Christians YOTC) ከዘጠኝ ዓመት አገልግሎት በኋላ እግዚአብሔር ፈቅዶ ሕንጻ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ለመግዛት መንቀሳቀስ ከጀመረ ሁለት ዓመት ሆኖታል። አሜሪካ ሀገር ተዋልደው ያደጉ ትውልደ ኢትዮጵያውያን እንዲሁም የውጭ ሃገር ዜጎች ሆነው የኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ሃይማኖትን መከተል ለሚፈልጉ የቤተ ክርስቲያናችንን ቀኖና ዶግማና ትውፊት በጠበቀ መልኩ እምነቷን በሚገባቸው ቋንቋ ለመረዳት በመቸገራቸው የተነሳ በውጭ ሃገር ያደጉ ወጣት አማኞችን በቤተ ክርስቲያን ውስጥ ማግኘት ከባድ ሆኗል። ይህ በቅዱስ ጳውሎስ ስም በብጹእ አባታችን አቡነ ፋኑኤል ፈቃድ የሚመሰረተው ቤተ ክርስቲያን ይህንን ችግር እንደ እግዚአብሔር ፈቃድ ይቀርፋል። ይህንንም የተቀደሰ ሃሳብ ለመደገፍ በዚህ ጎ ፈንድ ሚ አካውንት የሚችሉትን ሁሉ ይርዱ።

አጀማመር፦ የወጣት ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ክርስቲያኖች ማኅበር እንደ ኢትዮጵያውያን አቆጣጠር በ2006 ዓ.ም ወጣቶች በውጭ ሀገር ያዩትን የወንጌል አገልግሎት በቋንቋ ያለመዳረስ ክፍተት ለመሸፈንና ከቤተ ክርስቲያን የሚሰጠውን አገልግሎት በቋንቋና በባህል ምክንያት ባለመረዳት እየጠፉ ላሉት ወጣቶች ለመድረስ ይህ ማኅበር ተመሰረተ። የማኅበሩም ዓላማ የቤተ ክርስቲያንን ዶግማ ቀኖናና ትውፊት በጠበቀ መልኩ በቋንቋና ባህል ምክንያት ቤተ ክርስቲያኗን ላልተረዱ ወጣቶች ድልድይ መሆንና ሕይወታቸውን በእግዚአብሔር ቃል ለውጠው አርአያ የሚሆኑ ክርስቲያኖችን ማፍራት ነው። ይህንንም ለማሳካት የተለያዩ ጉባዔያትን፣ የመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ጥናት መርሐ ግብሮችን፣ ኤግዚቢሽኖችን፣ በተለያዩ ዘዴያት ስብከቶችን፣ ሁለት የመዝሙር ሲዲዎች፣ የተለያዩ የጥያቄና መልስ ቪዲዮች በመጠቀም ለስድስት ዓመታት በዲሲና አካባቢው ሃገረ ስብከት እንደ ማኅበር ሆኖ አገልግሏል። በዚህም አገልግሎት ከጥንሽ ቁጥር በመነሳት አሁን 300 የሚደርሱ ታዳሚዎችን በየቤተ ክርስቲያኑ አዳራሽ በማስፈቀድ የሚያስተምር ቢሆንም እነዚህ ወጣት የኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ አማኞች በሚገባቸው ቋንቋ ምስጢራተ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን የሚፈጽሙበት ቦታ ባለመኖሩ ወደ አኃት አብያተ ክርስቲያናት አገልግሎት በመፍለስ ላይ ናቸው።፡ይህንንም ለመቅረፍ ቤተ ክርስቲያን እንደሚያስፈልግ ስላመንበት ለአራት ዓመታት በቅዱስ ጳውሎስ ስም ተሰብስበን ወርሃዊ ጸሎት ስናደርግ ቆይተን ነሐሴ 2014 ለሃገረ ስብከታችንን ሊቀ ጳጳስ ቤተ ክርስቲያን እንዲተከልልን ያቀረብነው ጥያቄ ተቀባይነት አግኝቶ በዲሲና አካባቢው የመጀመሪያው የእንግሊዝኛ ተናጋሪዎችን የሚያገለግል ቤተ ክርስቲያን ለመግዛት ማኅበሩ እየተንቀሳቀሰ ይገኛል።

ይህንንም ከግብ ለማድረስ ማኅበሩ ከአባላቱና ከደገፊዎች ለቤተ ክርስቲያን ግዥ ብድር የሚያስፈልገውን ግማሹን እስካሁን የሰበሰበ ቢሆንም ካለው አቅም አኳያ በአበዳሪ ባንኮች የተጠየቀውን ሟሟላት አልቻለም። ስለዚህ ሁላችንም በመረባረብ እድሉ ሳያመልጠን ይህንን ሰማያዊ ዓላማ እናሳካ የእግዚአብሔርንም መንግሥት እንገንባ።
