Starting this gofundme to help raise money for a friend (who’s more like family) in need. Brooke recently found out she had cancer is dramatically changing her lifestyle to battle it. Brooke is one of the kindest people I know, she gives back to her community and children in need by therapy through mental health care. She is also the person, along with her husband Justin, who pushed me to follow my dreams and give me a place to stay while completing my schooling. She’s a terrific wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, therapist, and all around person. She’d be the last one to ask for help, but the first one to give it. She is more than deserving of some help through this extremely expensive journey on her path back to health to continue to help her community and more importantly to raise her children and continue to serve the Lord.
A message from Brooke:
A couple months ago I developed an intense desire to follow this doctor who approaches things holistically.
Then with the fast I felt convicted to give up sugars and carbs that weren't from fruit as well as breakfast to spend that time in prayer.
At the end of Dec I was prompted to check my breast for a lump with the overwhelming feeling that I have cancer and the season I was about to enter was one that the Lord would be glorified through my trials and other's what need to see what he was doing in me.
After finding a few lumps, I had an appt on the 10th and they sent me to U/S same day and the tech noted there were 6 cysts but made faces and stayed focused on one cluster of 3. That report indicated blood flow which means with it is cancerous 82% of the time (higher if on the left, which mine is).
A man at church, known for hearing from the Lord approached me that Sunday and said "I see the storm coming but the Lord will use this to draw others to him, he read psalms 93, prayed over us, and walked away.
A scan a couple weeks ago did reveal it was an early stage cancerous tumor. The lump in my lymph node did not present with cancer. Additionally, they found some autoimmune concerns that if addressed will hopefully address my chronic fatigue.
I have a lot of detoxing to do as well but I am glad we have some answers so I can start feeling better overall.
I am at peace about it all knowing the Lord prepared me. We have a plan that includes protocols from that doctor I now follow, the person who did my scan, my functional medicine doctor, and a cancer center we spoke to. It includes a low carb diet, several holistic treatments, and supplements. We have followed up with traditional providers too and are praying for wisdom as we continue treatment.
I feel pretty confident in it and the Lord and this plan should allow me to do most of this from home.
We ask for prayer as well in our finances as thus far, with appointments twice a week we have missed about 2 days a week of work. We anticipate this frequency or more for awhile as I will continue to need additional scans as well as treatment. I have also had to change my diet completely and it is far more expensive.
We have talked to several people and know in just the short term (in the next 6 weeks) we are looking at nearly $30,000 for treatments, supplement, scans, and medical equipment and if we have to travel for treatment, the center we are looking at is at least an additional $40,000.
Seeing that we are both business owners we also pray that the Lord helps up maintain our businesses both mentally and financially.
