Donate to Help Bring Mammography to Tunisia

Hello! My name is Fatima Ben Haj. Here is a bit about what I am fundraising for:

The most common cancer in Tunisia North Africa, where most of my family is from, is breast cancer. My aunt who is a doctor there recently told us that women in the southern part of the country do not have access to mammography and a radiologist from the northern part of the country also confirmed this information.

In the U.S., women with access to mammography have an over 90% chance of survival if the cancer is detected early. For women in southern Tunisia with no access to mammography, this is not a possibility, and therefore the survival rate is much lower.

I am in contact with multiple organizations that are trying to help with this problem. One of these organizations is the Association des Malades du Cancer (AMC) that covers partial costs for women who cannot afford to get a mammogram. The organization does many other amazing things such as helping women reintegrate into society after a diagnosis, educating the public on early detection, and there is even a house (called La Maison Verte) that takes women that do not have the funds to find lodging to the north while they undergo treatment. I am also working with an organization called RAD-AID who is partnered with the University of California, Davis, in hopes of building a mammogram van that could serve Southern Tunisia. Will you consider donating to aid the creation of a mammogram van and support women with cancer in Tunisia? With your help, the Tunisian radiologist said that this initiative could extend to other parts of Africa and help save even more lives.
