Dear Families and Friends of Boston Vigor,
We are looking to do some important fundraising for our organization. Please read below to understand exactly why we’re creating the Vigor Fund and how we intend to use the generous donations from our community.
Why are we creating the Vigor Fund?
The families whose children play for Boston Vigor pay fees designed to cover the costs of our facilities, like field use, our coaching staff and uniforms. However, Boston Vigor fields teams with players from many different backgrounds and not all families can afford to pay all of the fees required. To be able to support a broad range of talent in our program, we are organizing the Vigor Fund to raise funds and provide financial assistance where needed. We have 140 players in our program today, and we cover the costs of renting our practice spaces and one tournament that we compete in each year. We have asked parents to pay for things like an additional tournament each season for our teams, but at $100 per player, participation can be tough for some families.
Who collects the money and who decides how to allocate it?
Boston Vigor FC Academy handles this process. It is a not-for-profit organization, currently run by Wilson Teixeira. Aid is granted on a needs-based basis, and in the form of credits against registration fees for the Vigor program.
What is the length of time that you are running the Vigor Fund and what is the target amount of money to be raised?
This stage of the Vigor Fund campaign runs through December 15 2023. Our initial goal is $30,000.
How much of the money that is raised goes to families who apply for assistance?
We are using this platform, GoFundMe, to raise money. The platform fees are 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. Everything else goes toward covering the costs of running our team and offset fees for our families. It's worth noting that 40% of the families at the club receive some sort of financial assistance directly from the club.
How can parents and friends of Vigor support the Vigor Fund?
Please send an email to your family and friends explaining what a great program Boston Vigor is for our soccer community and asking them to donate via our GoFundMe page.
