Donate to help Blessing Get To School

People casually speak of how they went to University and got a Master’s abroad. For a child who grew up in a household where feeding was once a challenge, seeing the 4 walls of the University was my greatest dream, I envied individuals who were blessed enough to afford an education.

I remember a bus trip I took in 2015 with my mom and I saw the gates of the University of Benin, I thought to myself "How would it be, that I would gain access to this school?" Thanks to my Mathematics teacher who made this happen by paying part of my WAEC fees in 2014.

In 2016 I was blessed to be admitted to study Plant Biology and Biotechnology with a jamb score of 273, although I wanted medicine. That single letter from the University of Benin's registrar began my pursuit of achieving my dreams. My parents borrowed from LAPO and other institutions. We fried garri, and harvested cocoyam, melon, corn etc. Sold things and more to ensure I went through school. I also managed multiple part-time jobs as a tutor for 2nd year and final-year students, a teacher in kindergarten and secondary schools, a sales rep in a cybercafe, an intern for marketing agencies and more- all while balancing my studies.

In 2021 I graduated in the top 4.04% of my class with a CGPA of 4.55. And I became the first in my family to own a Bachelor’s degree and a first class.

As a norm for reaching for more, I started applying for my Master’s outside the country in 2022, and since then I have gotten over 10 offers. Last year I got a 50% tuition waiver but couldn’t go for my master's because there was no fund and this year I was awarded a 100% tuition waiver and a return flight ticket with a total value of about £20,000. Without exaggerating I have spent over 300 hours on grad school applications from essays to exams to interviews. Aside from the length of hours and days, I have also spent a lot from my savings. I sought out student and personal loans but all organisations I made a loan request from denied it. This led me to ask my University for a deferral of my scholarship. Initially, they said no but after what seemed like an endless episode of 2 months, I got a call stating that my scholarship which was supposed to be for September 2024 has been moved to January 2025. I need to raise £4,500 (9 million) in total with at least £2500 by November 5th to be able to achieve my dream of a Master’s degree.

I have exhausted all options which is why I am asking for your donation. Your investment of £10, £20, £100, £1000 will go a long way in helping a girl achieve her dreams and prove that one’s environment doesn’t define them. Help me get to School, please.

Please don’t let an opportunity for a fully-funded education, £20,000 in scholarships, and years of hard work slip away for £4,500. Your help today will change my future.
