Hi, my name is Tammy. I am fundraising for my grandson Blake Hornback. Blake is 18 years old and has been diagnosed with Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant B-Cell Lymphoma Cancer. Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) is a type of Hodgkin lymphoma. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that develops when white blood cells called lymphocytes grow out of control. This means that they divide abnormally or do not die when they should. This is a very rare and uncommon subtype of B-Cell Lymphoma. This cancer has multiple different ways to show its ugly head. One way is how Blake got diagnosed.
Blake went to his mom and dad on Feb 7, 2023, to show knots he had found in his neck. After a CT scan, a needle biopsy, and blood work Blake was sent to surgery. Blake underwent surgery on March 3, 2023. In 24 days the knots that felt like a marble under his skin had grown to the size of chicken eggs. The doctors removed one nodule the size of a chick egg, two a tad bit smaller, and two that were smaller than that removed and then sent them off for biopsy. The first pathology report was completed on March 09, 2023. It was so rare that they automatically sent the nodules off to another bigger lab. On March 16, 2023, both Pathology Reports were finalized. That was the day that changed Blake and his family’s life. Blake is being supported by The University of Kansas Cancer Center by Dr. Marc Hoffmann.
The realization about this cancer is that it is so rare that there are not a lot of treatments or successes that have been documented. If the PET/CT/Lab work shows that a patient is in the early stages AND that the cancer is localized to one area the suggestions are to complete one week of Radiation Therapy. This radiation therapy will be scheduled once a day for 5 days. If the stage advances then there is no need for urgent treatment and symptoms of this cancer are dealt with the best you can to ensure the quality of life. The only other options are to review and weigh the CHANCES of different clinical trials and their side effects and make a decision on whether we are willing to try said treatment. The price tag with everything he has already been through and the price tag with everything he will have to go thru is horrid. It is amazing how this world puts a price on human life and the quality of each life.
Playing dice with another life… Blake is a friend, a son, an uncle, a grandson and a beautiful human life. Blake has shown his kindness, compassion, and caring for others more than himself his entire life. Now it is up to him and his family to roll the dice to gain each moment, each day, and each memory. This world should not be without such a soul, but unfortunately, all we can do is try to make each moment and each day the best for him.
Any help would be immensely appreciated. If you cannot afford anything please take time to say a prayer for Blake. Donations can be made at People's Bank and Trust in Hutchinson, Kansas. Please make sure to send a note that the money needs to be deposited into Blake Hornback's medical fund.
Thank you and God Bless.
