In August 2019, Blake Kendrick was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia (SAA) at the young age of 6.
Severe Aplastic Anemia (SAA) is a bone marrow disease and is very rare, there are only 2.234 cases per million people in the United States and Europe. SAA is a life-threatening condition with very high death rates, about 70% within 1 year.
Blake has spent the past 4 years in and out of specialist hospitals and many times the family have thought the unthinkable, that they may be close to saying goodbye to their precious son. Fortunately, Blake is currently stable, but every day brings a new challenge when you have a young son with an extremely rare illness. The constant driving to and from hospitals (that are over 2 hours' drive from the family home) and taking leave from work to care for Blake has taken a toll financially on the family.
Not only has Blake’s family had to navigate the challenges of having a young son with a rare, life-threatening disease, but they have also had to face several other financial hardships, including Covid-19 and the devastating floods that hit the Northern Rivers in February 2022. Unfortunately, Blake’s family home in Mullumbimby was severely damaged in the floods and the family have had to put repairs on hold whilst they focus on their son's health.
Blake’s father, Jason works full-time at an organic farm in Myocum, NSW and has shown resilience and strength beyond comprehension during this extremely difficult time. I am writing this donation page for the family as an employee at the farm where Jason works. It has been both heartbreaking and inspiring to witness such courage from Jason throughout the many challenges he and his wife, Larna face daily.
I have created this page with the hope to fundraise as much money as possible to financially support this incredible family, so their energy and strength can focus on healing.
I encourage you to please share this page on social media with family and friends as we work together to lighten the burden on this amazing family as they learn to adapt to the challenges ahead. We are extremely grateful for any donation you can give - big or small.
THANK YOU!
