Update 3/5: Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and generosity. In the last two weeks, Bill has made noticeable progress; he is now speaking and eating and joking with everyone. It is great to see him coming back. Of course, there is a long road ahead of physical therapy and an unclear timeline. As a family we are taking it day by day. We realize that with your generosity we far exceeded our initial goal. But now knowing more, we are increasing our goal to help with longer-term needs of Bill and Cathy. If you have helped, thank you so much. If you’re just hearing about this, we ask for your prayers, and if feasible, your generosity to help Bill in his time of need. Regardless, our hearts are full. Much love, the Duncan family.
Original Post:
Hi, on behalf of my siblings and our mom, we write to tell you about our dad, Bill. He had a massive heart attack earlier this month and is still in the hospital receiving care. While still sedated, he is responding to commands and is slowly recovering. We are unsure about timelines and how long his recovery will take, but now that he cannot work, we are concerned about Mom being able to pay bills. Several friends have asked if we have a GoFundMe fundraiser set up for him, so we are doing it now.
As you are aware, Bill has given most of his life to maintaining and building all kinds of transportation. Whether cars, motorcycles, boats, or airplanes, this man has built a knowledge base and skill set that few people can match. He has always been devoted to getting you back on the road, in the water, or air. His sympathy and understanding extend beyond the mechanical to each of us who interacts with him.
In September when he and Mom were visiting us, he was so excited to get to work on the Land Cruiser, so we treated some rust, charged the A/C system, painted the grille black, and installed new headlights. That was one of the thousands of days ‘off’ where he was fixing stuff instead of relaxing. Thankfully, during that same trip, he did take time to relax at the lake with all of us. We had a lot of fun.
On most weekends I am sure you have seen him working, we have always told him he needs to take it easy. But now he must take it easy, truly take some days off for himself to heal. If he has helped you, we would be grateful if you would help him in this time of need. Any amount is much appreciated.
