writing this post today, in hopes that together, we can make a very big difference for a very dear friend, and an incredible mother to her 11 year old son, Abel.

Earlier this summer, on June 30th, Beth Charlier received news that no 32 year old could have imagined or ever been prepared to hear.

“ You have Cancer!” , Beth was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the oral cavity, meaning she had Cancer on her tongue. Her life had changed in an instant, she felt the ground had dropped out beneath her. How would she tell her 11 year old son Abel, “ Mom has Cancer ”.

Beth was sent to Froedtert Medical Center in Milwaukee, there she learned the Cancer was advanced, and would need to undergo a partial glossectomy, meaning, removal of the cancerous part of her tongue and use skin grafted from her arm, along with, nerves, and vein to keep it alive. She also required a neck dissection to remove any possible lymph nodes that may be cancerous. Surgery was performed on July 17. Beth spent 8 days in the hospital recovering. She had been home only a day and a half when discovering she had developed a serious infection, she was then sent back to Froedtert, required another five day stay for surgery to flush out the infection. Once at home, Beth was unable to use her voice for a month, due to swelling and was also unable to eat, requiring a feeding tube to be placed in her stomach. Beth now has recently started 5 days a week of Chemotherapy and Radiation for 5-6 weeks. Beth has handled this very difficult journey with so much grace, and dignity, with the love and support of her family and loved ones continuously by her side. With medical bills mounting and Beth not able to work while recovering from surgeries and ongoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments, I am hoping to ease her mind, so she is better able to focus on healing and getting better. We are appreciative of any donation. “ Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much!” Beth is a fighter and she will beat Cancer.
