Hi, my name is Sefat, and I’m reaching out to you with a plea to help save the life of my friend’s 1 year old niece , Maisura. This little girl fighted a rare and life-threatening condition called **biliary atresia**, a congenital disease in which the bile ducts were blocked. In Maisur's case the blockage of the bile ducts, Maisura's entire liver was damaged. In such a situation, a liver transplant was performed to save her life. But **now need another surgery**.
**Why need another surgery?**
Maisura's liver transplant was successfully performed on 24 August 2024, at Rela Hospital in Chennai, India. Her mother donated a part of her own liver to save her daughter's life.
At the time of the operation, Maisura was only 6 months and 25 days old, but her weight was just 4.4 kg, which is considered underweight. **Due to her low weight, the doctors were unable to close her muscles during the surgery; only her skin was closed.**
The doctors had informed that six months after the transplant, a follow-up surgery would be needed to close the muscles. Now, the time for that surgery has arrived.
Background:
Maisura's father is Rokibul Islam and mother is Mahbuba Akter Shathi both were completed BBA from National University. Maisura's father was employed at a private company, but he lost his job after having to stay in India for three months for Maisura's treatment. ow earns a living through ride-sharing services.
**Maisura’s Story:**
Since birth, Maisura's stool color was white, which was abnormal. At just 7 days old, she was taken to the doctor for the first time, but her condition remained undiagnosed because biliary atresia is extremely rare in Bangladesh. In Asia, only 1 in 15,000 children is affected by this condition.
Finally, on May 6, 2024, when Maisura was 3 months and 8 days old, a liver function test, ultrasound (USG), and stool color analysis confirmed the devastating diagnosis—Extrahepatic Biliary Atresia.
Doctors explained that the primary treatment for biliary atresia is the "Kasai operation", but Maisura had already surpassed the optimal time frame for this surgery. This meant that a liver transplant was the only remaining option.
Later, we traveled to Chennai, India, where Maisura’s liver transplant was successfully performed on August 24, 2024, at Rela Hospital.
Unfortunately, even though Maisura was 6 months and 25 days old at the time of the transplant, she weighed only 4.4 kg, which is considered underweight. Due to her low weight, doctors were unable to close her abdominal muscles; only the skin was closed.
Doctors had advised that six months after the transplant, another surgery would be required to close the muscles.
After successfully undergoing a liver transplant, Maisura and her family returned to Bangladesh on October 5, 2024. However, a month later, Maisura was infected with Rota Virus along with three other bacteria and was admitted to Central Hospital in Dhaka for nine days. As her condition worsened, she was urgently taken to India, where she was hospitalized for nine days, including three days in the ICU.
Since the transplant, Maisura's immune system has been very weak, making her highly vulnerable to infections. Additionally, because her muscles are still open, she is at an increased risk of developing serious infections, which could be life-threatening.
Now that Maisura is one year old, she has started crawling and learning to walk. Since her muscles are not closed, any fall or injury to her abdomen could cause severe damage to her liver, which could be fatal.
In this situation, the only way to save Maisura's life is to perform the muscle closure surgery as soon as possible.

**The Challenge We Face:**
The muscle closure surgery must be performed at Rela Hospital in Chennai, India, where the liver transplant was done. This is because this treatment is not available in Bangladesh, and no other hospital in India is willing to take the risk of treating a liver transplant patient.
The estimated cost of this surgery, including hospital expenses, transportation, and other incidental costs, is approximately BDT 20,00,000. After already bearing the expenses of the transplant, this surgery is now beyond our financial capability.

**Why We Need Your Help:**
Maisura's mother, who has already donated part of her liver to Maisura, shares the following heartfelt plea.
"We have given everything to come this far to save our daughter's life. I have donated a part of my own liver to her. Even then, we have already spent around BDT 65 Lakh to 70 lakh Taka.
To gather this money, my husband sold his land, I sold my jewelry, we borrowed from relatives, took multiple loans from NGOs, and finally raised funds through social media to complete the transplant.
In this situation, we have nothing left of our own. That’s why we cannot bear the financial burden alone for the muscle closure operation, which requires another BDT 20,00,000."
