Fundraiser for Aspen Golann
You might know Aspen through her exceptional work and extensive involvement in expanding access and education in the craft.
Recently, Aspen broke her leg just above the ankle. She has had to cancel all her upcoming classes and commissions and cannot work in the shop, or walk for up to 5 months. We all know what it costs a maker to be out of the shop for that long. She’s a champ and continues to write and organize the "Chairmaker’s Toolbox" project from her bed -but that's work she does for free. I'm asking for donations to help her while she recuperates.
I’ve known Aspen since she was a student at The North Bennet Street school in Boston, where she stood out for her intense work ethic, complex projects and artistic talent. After she left the school, she started on a path unlike any I had ever seen. Most of her efforts have been oriented towards giving back to the community, as exemplified by her use of her Mineck fellowship prize to start the “Chairmaker’s Toolbox.” The project offers tools, education and product development for toolmakers in underrepresented communities in the woodworking industry. This project is just one example of her involvement and activism. Even though she could use her time & talent to promote just herself and her prospects, she mostly continues to donate her time, energy, and talent to create opportunities for others.
I hope you'll join me in supporting her while she recovers from this unfortunate injury.
