Help Ariel change her legal name and gender marker

Hi, My name is Ariel and I am fundraising for the costs of changing my name and gender marker.

I came out as transgender in October 2024, and since then have been attempting to save for the cost of changing my name and gender on my birth certificate. Unfortunately as many trans folx will attest to, it is an expensive thing to transition your gender, and when the expenses outweigh the earnings, this makes it nearly impossible.

Many trans people will also know that having their old name hanging around is emotionally painful. I have done so much to be where I am, but being called out by my old name whilst living my authentic life is horrible. I usually pray there are no other people around to hear it.

I live with multiple disabilities which constantly demand emotional, mental, and financial attention, and often it is a choice between things like medication and food, or a doctor's appointment and medication. Something always gives way. I have ceased one medication in the last few months as it is unaffordable for me to sustain it, and though it helps me, it is not essential.

This means that finding the $370 in costs to change my gender and name in SA is becoming more unachievable for me as the months go on. In many cases I can affirm my gender with second hand items at op shops, or being cunning with sales prices on things such as makeup.

But when affirming your gender there are some costs which are unavoidable, which when unachievable is even more painful.

If there is anything more raised this will go directly to other costs in affirming my gender such as paying for change of name on legal documents, or medical affirmations such as continuing laser hair removal.

However, if the $370 is raised, for that I will be grateful and humbled by the generosity of others at assisting to help me achieve this important part of my gender affirmation.
