Hello, I am Arabella’s mum, Katrina.
I adopted Arabella on 15th October 2021, after I fell in love with her through the GAP website. She’s the best thing to happen to me (along with her Dalmatian sister, Ellie).
Arabella is in need of emergency hospitalisation and we could really use some help.
Please see the timeline of Arabella’s decline:
Saturday Morning
Arabella was perfectly healthy, but by Saturday evening she started to refuse food, which is very out of character for her!
Monday Morning
Arabella was taken to the vet as she had only eaten a little bit but still seemed off her food.
After lots of testing (blood tests, pancreatitis test, ultrasound), it was determined that Arabella’s liver was not working properly, her pancreas was inflamed and her blood was not clotting properly. Arabella was kept at her regular vet for monitoring and fluid IV.
Monday Evening
Arabella was still very unwell so had to go to AREC (Animal Referral and Emergency Centre) to be monitored overnight.
Tuesday Morning
Arabella went back to her regular vet where more testing was completed. Her blood test results determined the levels for her liver and blood clotting had decreased slightly, but were still very high.
Tuesday Evening
Arabella was referred to SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital) for further assessment and treatment.
Wednesday Morning
SASH recommended that Arabella would require a CT scan ($2700), as well as further assessment and monitoring. SASH have identified that Arabella has more fluid built up in her abdomen and chest area than originally thought (they cannot confirm if this is blood or another fluid). Arabella’s blood is still not clotting correctly, and they have determined she needs a plasma transfusion.
The estimate received for Arabella’s treatment at SASH has already totalled $8283.
Arabella required intervention by her usual vet and AREC prior, which has totalled almost $4000.
As her mum, I have dipped into all my savings, applied for a loan (which takes time to be approved), and asked for support off family. Even after this, there is money outstanding.
I would be forever grateful for any help, big or small. Any money that is not used for Arabella I will donate to Greyhounds As Pets (GAP).
Proof of bills and payments will be uploaded for your peace of mind.
I will do anything for Arabella and I’m heartbroken that this has happened to such a beautiful girl.
