My name is Febbie, and I am reaching out on behalf of my sister, Anne Tambala, a 44 year old mother of two, a dedicated primary school teacher at Mphezu Primary School in the southern part of Malawi, Africa. Anne is a gentle, hardworking woman who has devoted her life to raising not only her children, but her siblings ever since our parents died as well as shaping young minds in her community as a teacher and dedicated SDA master guide. She is a single mother, who has stood strong for her family, even through difficult times.

In July last year, Anne began experiencing worrying changes with her eyes and losing memory. She struggled to read, which was heartbreaking to watch, especially for someone whose entire profession is built around reading, teaching, and helping children learn. At first, we hoped it was just fatigue, or eye problem. We tried to get her glasses but soon she could no longer recognise words clearly. That was when we knew something was seriously wrong.

After several medical checkups and an MRI scan, our fears were confirmed. On 14th September, the doctors found a brain tumor. It was a devastating moment for our family. Despite the fear and uncertainty, Anne faced it with so much courage.

Doctors scheduled her for brain surgery on 22nd October, and by God’s grace, the operation was successful. And Annie has been recovering very well, her sight has returned and her memory is as sharp, thanks to the Neurosurgeons at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and the whole team that took part in her surgery and recovery. But the journey did not end there. The biopsy results later revealed that Anne had Grade 2 Astrocytoma, a slow growing but life changing type of cancer that requires further radiation treatment to prevent the tumor from resurfacing.

Anne now urgently needs radiotherapy, which is done at the Cancer Centre of Malawi, a private owned facility. The total costs of everything involved spans around AU$13000. For our family, this amount is far beyond what we can manage, as many resources, covered her hospitalization, during her Brain tumor surgery. We want Anne to receive the best treatment as soon as possible so that she should not go through what she went through from the brain tumor, and that she should continue being the strong, loving mother, sister, and teacher she has always been. She is recovering well and she cannot wait to go back to her teaching Job and her community services.

We are humbly asking for support from anyone who has the heart to help. Every contribution ,no matter how small, will bring us one step closer in ensuring Anne gets the care she needs. Even sharing this fundraiser with others will make a big difference.
