This fundraiser is being set up for my aunt Annabella Valdez. Many of you might remember that in December 2011 my aunt’s son was in a horrible car accident that left him in a coma and with a traumatic brain injury. My aunt is a single mother, sole provider and caregiver to my cousin Haram. She has spent the past 11 years taking care of her only child, and while it’s been hard, he is her whole world, and she’s dedicated her life to him.

Last month she started feeling ill and ended up hospitalized. She had over 5 liters of fluid drained because her liver has stopped working correctly. She has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer; additional tests are being done to determine if it has spread and at what stage it is.

My aunt does not have the financial means to hire a caregiver to help with my cousin while she's unable to care for him, nor is she able to pay for the deductible and copays for her medical treatment. She hates asking for help but knows that she cannot continue without support.
