Donate to help Andy Hernandez and family

Hello,
This is a fundraiser for Andy Hernandez, a loved father, talented musician, entrepreneur, union ironworker, and motorcycle enthusiast. On April 22, 2022, Andy was in a motorcycle accident. When he was found unconscious by paramedics, he was rushed to the ICU, where they continue to treat his life-threatening injuries. Andy suffered a skull fracture with bleeding in the brain, a broken spine, hip, ribs, and ankle. Among these, the brain and spine are the biggest concern. The bleeding of the brain stopped on Saturday, and doctors continue to monitor for swelling via an Intracranial Pressure Monitor probe inserted by drilling a hole through his skull, which is typical for these types of injuries. His spine is completely off the alignment, and “the fact he can feel his toes is a miracle.” nurses say. Sunday, April 24th Andy underwent 9 hours of surgery for his spine and ankle. There was more damage than expected as Andy’s spinal cord had been partially severed and was leaking fluid. The doctor was able to repair the spinal cord and realign his spine by fusing the upper and lower discs. Afterward, another doctor worked to repair his ankle with no complications. Andy still has one more surgery this week for his spine, which was delayed due to the extra damage found to his spinal cord. While we pray for the best outcome, there is still cation as we are not guaranteed anything. Andy will continue to work with a motor skills specialist as he is still confused and suffering from his head injury. While he can recognize family, he still fails his motor skills tests.
Andy wore many life hats, one of them being a father to his children- Jacob, 14 years old; Luna, 3 years old and Siouxsie, 22 months old. While Jacob is old enough to visit his father, the younger girls are not and do not understand what is going on. They keep asking and looking for DADDY around the house. Their mother comforts them and reassures them that Daddy will be home soon. Andy continues to fight for his life and heal; daily life outside the ICU does not stop. Andy was the leading provider for his family as a proud Union Ironworker, which he will not be able to return to anytime soon, if at all. It is up to their mother to support the family, support Andy in his recovery, and maintain her business as a hairstylist. There has been no mention of how long Andy will be in the hospital. Even with insurance, there will be a bill at the end, as well as a long road to recovery. He will have to learn how to walk and talk again and fight the emotional battles of depression, acceptance, and healing.
Andy is a man that many people turn to when they need help, whether your car needs fixing or an ear to listen. As a Bassist, Andy has performed with Los Pistoleros, Hot Rod Rebellion, Riptide Bandits, The Mighty Surflords, MRDOB, and The Reno DeVilles, to name a FEW. In addition, he has participated in countless fundraisers in the Northern Nevada area for others needing support. His wife has also participated in many local fundraising events, donating time and services for great local causes, including eight years with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. We are touched and moved by our community's outpour of love.
Whether big or small, your donation today will help his family in daily life and cover medical costs when they do come. Your help is appreciated beyond measure during this very difficult time. Updates on Andy's progress are to come.
