Last week, my husband Andrew went to the ER for severe abdominal pain and was eventually hospitalized. Throughout the week, he got worse and doctors couldn’t exactly explain why. He had finally started to feel better on the treatment when he suddenly felt pain come on early Thursday morning and needed to be rushed to UVM medical center for an emergency surgery on his intestines. He is recovering now, but needs to remain hospitalized for an unknown amount of time depending on his progress. Andrew is a freelance music educator who works both in public schools and has a virtual teaching studio. He has lost significant income from his hospital stay and will need to take time off once he is discharged as he recovers. Additionally, the medical bills are very costly since he does not have health insurance and we are in the final process of buying a house at the end of September. We have applied for financial assistance through the hospital, but the prescriptions and supplies he needs in the meantime are very expensive and we can’t guarantee we will be approved for any assistance.
