Alex is 25 years old and has always been the kind of person who shows up for others.

For the past five years, he’s proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder with the Borden-Carleton Fire Department. He’s also volunteered at countless local events and community initiatives. Helping others isn’t just something Alex does — it’s who he is.

In the fall of 2024, Alex took an exciting step toward his dream career by starting the paramedicine program. But that dream was suddenly put on hold. On his very first day, he received devastating news: he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

Everything changed overnight.

Alex had to step away from school and work to focus on treatments, scans, and chemotherapy. After months of courage and determination, he finally rang the bell at the PEI Oncology Unit in February 2025 — a symbol of hope and strength for him and everyone who loves him.

Even while recovering, Alex’s resilience never wavered. By July, he had returned to his student job and resumed volunteering with the fire department. When his health made paramedicine no longer possible, he didn’t give up — he redirected his goals and enrolled in the business program at Holland College.

But just as life seemed to be moving forward again, new symptoms appeared — night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. After further testing, Alex and his family were given heartbreaking news in October: the cancer had relapsed.

This time, the treatment plan is far more aggressive.

Alex has already endured additional rounds of chemotherapy. His next step requires travel to Halifax for high-dose chemotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant — an intensive and exhausting process. He’ll spend weeks in the hospital and then 30–40 days in outpatient recovery, all far from home.

Through all of this, Alex will need a support person by his side. The emotional, physical, and financial strain is enormous. Travel costs, accommodations, time away from work, and medical expenses will quickly add up.

Alex has spent years giving selflessly to his community. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.

If you’re able to contribute financially, any amount — no matter how small — will make a meaningful difference. If you can’t give right now, please consider sharing this fundraiser to help spread the word and surround Alex with the support he’s given others so many times.

Let’s come together for Alex — just as he has always shown up for all of us.

With gratitude,

The Family
