Hey everyone,
It's Adam. I was in a car accident on Feb 13th. Despite the fact that a repair shop told me my car could be fixed, my insurance company is totaling the car. Unfortunately, I was never offered nor did I seek gap insurance when I bought the car. I tried to plead with the insurance company to get the car fixed but they won't budge. They're also denying my medical claim even though the police report hasn't been released. As evidenced in one of the photos, they denied medical coverage the same day that the claim was filed. They didn't even call to ask, they just denied it outright. Despite the jingle, Nationwide is most definitely not on my side.
I'll keep a long story short. I bought the car when the gas crisis started in 2022. At that time, the prices were severely inflated on these types of cars. As a result, later models of this car were priced way cheaper. So my car has a ton of negative equity since later models were priced cheaper. What this means is that my insurance company is only covering the value of the car, which leaves me on the hook for several thousand dollars to finish paying off the car and nothing towards getting my next car. I'm starting this fundraiser to collect donations to pay off the rest of the car and to put money down on a good used one I found.
Additionally, I am going to use some of these funds to seek a little medical treatment for some minor injuries sustained from my side airbags. As I said above, they're denying my medical claim as of now. I did see a chiropractor and have been told that I have a strained trap muscle, sprained shoulder, and disjointed hip. All of this is on my left side, which is my dominant hand. Writing with a pain is its own special difficulty now.
This is all coming on the heels of a rough few months for me. In September of 2024, I was notified by my then employer that our company was either going to shut down or be restructured. It was ultimately the latter. In that process, we had to reapply and re-interview for the jobs we were already working. About 20% of us just weren't hired back. I was one of them. They never provided us a reason or explanation. I was just out of my union job on January 1st. I also lost my benefits. I'm starting new work; however, it is still ramping up so this accident came at the worst time, as they often do.
Any and every donation helps. And please feel free to share with people you know. If there's one thing I've learned so far in this crazy year, it's that companies and institutions can, and will, fail us; however, people are always there for each other. If you can donate any amount and pass it along to friends, I will be eternally grateful. I appreciate the help that can be offered in this time of personal crisis.
Love to you all and stay safe out there.
Adam
