Ashley Mae Maxine Rotap Manglo, age 27 known as Ashley to her family and friends, was born on November 23, 1998. A bright, happy child, she thrived at school and went on to university, gaining a BSc in Accountancy. After graduating, she went on to study for the CPA Board Exam, having high hopes and dreams to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Suddenly, in January 2020, she started experiencing intermittent fever, chills, and night sweats. Her health deteriorated until, on February 2, 2020, she was rushed to the ER where it was established that her white blood cell count was 700 as opposed to a normal level of around 10. The tragic diagnosis was leukaemia.

Ashley is a fighter and commenced a programme of oral chemotherapy, which was effective for a while. During that time, she felt stronger and took a job in a call centre to cover the cost of the medication, but after a while, the cancer worsened and her body could no longer cope with working.

Eventually, she had to stop but still carried her dream of qualifying as an accountant so she decided to take up her studies again for the CPA board exam. However, complications constantly arose and she had many stays in hospital undergoing exhausting treatments and blood transfusions, all of which prevented her from sitting her exams.

Fast forward to 2025, and her doctors have now confirmed that she has chronic myeloid leukaemia accelerated phase blood cancer, Stage 3. As her condition has continued to worsen and the cancer has become more aggressive, she is now virtually bed-ridden and suffers excruciating pain.

Ashley is Filipino, living in Batangas, Philippines where there is no NHS. Needing oral chemotherapy from 2020, she was previously required to pay approx. £600 a month but, as that treatment became ineffective, the dosage had to be increased, costing around £1,500 a month. This, too, is now no longer effective and Ashley is confined to hospital as the cancer is spreading throughout her body.

Her doctors recommended a different oral chemotherapy, Asciminib, costing around £3,000 a month but she now needs an urgent bone marrow transplant, which would cost approximately £60,000, along with intensive chemotherapy.

Having funded her treatment for so long, with insurance, her own work, and the financial support of her loving family, her insurance has now run out, she is no longer able to work. and her family have nothing left to pay for these treatments. However, were she able to proceed, the cancer could finally be eliminated from her body.

We are now appealing, therefore, for whatever you can spare to enable this beautiful, clever young woman to have the treatment she so desperately needs to survive and live the life she deserves.
