My name is Emily Willis and and I'm a cancer survior.
I was diagnosed with cancer the day before my 27th birthday.
I've been through 16 rounds of chemo, multiple surgeries, and 4 weeks of radiation. While I hoped my body would bounce back to the way it was pre-treatment some of the health issues I developed are permanent or ongoing. Some of these are most likely a result of treatment or worsened by it. Before I even started chemo I had migraines, OCD, Depression, Anxiety, and other mental health issues that increased in severity from my experiences. I've had multiple surgical complications that required painful, daily treatment. Chemo has left me with permanent nerve damage. It may also be the cause of my dysautonomia, but my doctors are unsure of how long I've had it. It's caused severe daily nausea and fatiuge, stomach issues, as well as unpredictable dizzy spells.
During treatment I developed an incredibly rare eye condition that eroded my corneas. My doctor's believe it was triggered by chemotherapy or immunotherapy. While treatment has helped me keep my eyesight I still have problems from it. Unsurprisingly I have been diagnosed medical PTSD.
Unfortunately I've had to edit this gofundme several times with new diagnosis and health conditions. I never thought I would need it for so long. I have near weekly doctor's appointments and tests to manage everything.
My treatments and pre-existing health conditions have made it impossible to have gainful employment. I applied for disability but like the majority of applicants my application has been denied on a non-medical technicality. I'm working on re-applying and finding a lawyer to help. I need some financial assistance while I fight for disability.
I only made it through all of this thanks to the kindness of the people in my life, health professionals, and the wonderful surviors I met along the way. I'm so grateful for them and their generosity.
I appreciate any donations. Thank you.
