JT (John Truelove) is a 79-year-old lifelong sailor who lost his home after his sailboat was trapped in a Caribbean boatyard under a disputed $13,000 salvage bill.

After repairing the boat himself and briefly getting back on the water, he returned for a minor fix… and his boat and home was never allowed to leave again.

His boat was held, storage fees piled up, and over time it was stripped of its gear.

Today, JT is relying on the kindness of others just to have somewhere to sleep.

I witnessed this firsthand while documenting my own 449-day fight to escape the same boatyard. I got out… he didn’t.

This fundraiser is about giving him a second chance—whether that’s a safe boat to live on, or simply some stability and dignity again.
