Help 16 families regain £75k after devastating builder fraud

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Susie and I am fundraising on behalf of my close friend who lost over £20,000 to a rogue roofer.

She wasn't the only victim. Sixteen families together lost a total of £75,840 to the same cowboy contractor, who is now serving 32 months in prison for fraud.

The court awarded no compensation so we're raising funds to support all 16 families as they try to rebuild their lives after this devastating fraud.

Please read the full story below;

Between 2019 and 2023, 16 innocent people placed their trust and their hard earned money into the hands of a local roofer who promised quality work and honest service. Instead, he carried out 16 counts of fraud, taking £75,840 in total from victims who believed they were investing in their homes and futures.

On Friday 27 February 2026, the builder, who described himself as a ‘self-taught roofer’, was finally held accountable and sentenced to 32 months of immediate custody. While this provides a sense of justice, the court ruled that no compensation will be paid to the victims. We’re raising funds to help them recover the money that was taken.

The innocent families affected are still facing the financial cost and emotional stress of the damage he left behind.

One family remortgaged their home to pay for a loft conversion and then had to take out an additional loan to correct his substandard workmanship. Work in their home remains unfinished.

A first-time buyer was left for months with her roof exposed to the elements, causing significant damage to the rest of her house and shattering dreams of a first home.

Others reported leaks, poor quality work that failed to meet building regulations, broken promises of returning to finish jobs he'd started, the stress and frustration of ignored telephone calls, and paying for work that was never completed.

The builder did not discriminate. His victims include the elderly, families with children, even his own friends. Almost all victims said they continue to suffer emotionally and no longer trust tradespeople, for fear of it happening to them again.

The impact on the victims isn't just about lost money. It has included;

  • Savings wiped out
  • People still living with unsafe or unfinished work
  • Borrowing from family, friends, or lenders just to make their homes liveable again.
  • Long lasting mental health struggles, including stress, anxiety, and a deep loss of trust
  • Family disruption and hardship caused by years of uncertainty

Because the court awarded no compensation, every victim has been left to carry the full weight of their financial loss alone.

Victims said:
“The dishonesty and substandard workmanship have had a lasting and devastating impact on our family. Although the court’s decision brings some sense of closure, we continue to suffer the consequences of his actions.
"What we have lost goes far beyond the money he took from us. Our mental health and wellbeing have been significantly affected, and we are still facing the cost and stress of repairing the damage he left behind.
“His actions have completely destroyed our trust in tradespeople. The emotional, financial, and practical effects of what he did will stay with us for a very long time."

"I was left with significant financial loss and a home that was uninhabitable, something that has and will take years to recover from.”

""He didn’t just steal my money he stole my peace of mind and the dream I was building in my home."

Our goal is simple:

To replace the £75,840 that was taken and help 16 victims rebuild what they lost.

Funds will be distributed proportionately between the affected families based on the financial loss stated in court. All payments and invoices are recorded.

If you can donate, share or simply spread the word, it will be a huge help to those who didn't deserve what happened to them. Even £5 helps one family get closer to finishing their home and recovering the money they have lost.
