When you think of an outstanding man, what comes to mind? Intelligent, caring, loving, funny, hardworking, hands-on? Well, all of those things in a nutshell describe Hector. Hector Arroyo (47) is a loving father & husband, a hardworking contributing member to our community currently working for Moyer Electric & has helped contribute to all sorts of different projects around our community; residential & commercial including Elkhart’s very own Learner Theatre! This is a simple man who enjoys nothing more than working, coming home, taking care of his lawn & going on bike rides around the neighborhood with his wife and daughter. This is your everyday dad who enjoys a 7-11 coffee on the way to work, takes his daughters to practices & school events & is always willing to help out friends & family with projects big & small.
Not too long ago, on July 22, 2025, our family received devastating news. After a trip to Urgent Care, to later be sent to the E.R. for what we thought was a stomach ache, we later learned that our father, Hector, has small cell stage 4 liver cancer; or as it was explained to us, poorly differentiated carcinoma with neuroendocrine expression. Not only did we find cancer in his liver but also in his colon & lung. This weight has started to become extremely heavy & is taking a toll on our whole family, emotionally, mentally & financially.
The doctor later told us that in order to expand the span of his life, we should proceed with chemotherapy. During this past month, my parents have barely worked at all, and with the way things are currently in this economy, as many of you may understand, it is extremely tough. My parents are maintaining a mortgage, two daughters at home, 19 & 12, two dogs, & a car note along with other expenses. Neither of my parents have medical insurance, so NONE of these medical bills have been covered. His first week at the hospital cost just over $1,000. Once we received his first month’s chemotherapy schedule, it was estimated to be about $18,000. We’ve been denied for Medicaid & have applied for financial aid through the Beacon Health System but haven’t gotten a response; even if we do get approved, it only covers up to 6 months. In desperation to save my dad, it’s simply not enough. It doesn’t seem like my dad will be back to work anytime soon & my mother is making an attempt to juggle work & all of his appointments. Despite her best efforts, she has barely been able to work even 20 hours a week. Every dollar contributed to this will help my dad with his medical bills. God may have mercy, but cancer doesn’t. Please pray, share & donate. Donations are not expected, and especially in times like these, we understand, but PLEASE don’t let that stop you from sharing. Thank you.
